 A Note From Our Commodore
January 15, 2022

It’s been my pleasure to serve on our Club’s Board for the past year, and I’m honored to be serving as your Commodore this year. As we begin 2022, I’d like to share a few thoughts with you about what I believe will be an exciting year.

2020 was a year in which we faced the same unprecedented challenges every organization in America faced because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even with many of our events having to be cancelled or severely curtailed for the safety of our members, we made it through in a good financial position. In 2021 we were able to conduct all of our sailing events and most of our social events, and we again closed the year in good financial position.

The outlook for 2022 is very bright in spite of some lingering restraints from the COVID variants. Our 2022 budget enables us to now have all of our usual events on our Upcoming Events calendar. We have very capable people who have accepted key committee chairmanships that I believe will allow us to capitalize on significant emerging opportunities to bring in and retain more members. Our Board decided toward the end of last year to devote more time to long-range strategic planning to ensure that we are adapting effectively to the rapidly changing environment in our rapidly growing city, and we are already engaged in that process. Understanding our members’ perceptions of PPYC and their opinions about our programs and events is vital information in our strategic planning, so a survey was developed to give us that information. We sincerely appreciate the already statistically significant number of you who have taken that very short survey. If you haven’t taken it, please consider doing so now.

We will keep you posted on where we stand in our strategic planning process during the year — through our Newsletters, through remarks I may make here, and in other ways we may find as the year progresses. There may also be some brief polls in which we ask you to express your opinions on specific matters.

So let’s look forward to a great year! We will be resuming our First Thursday Sailors’ Meetups on February 3rd. These were popular last year when we started them. If you haven’t participated in them yet, I encourage you to check them out. Happy New Year!
