On February 24th Kenny Cooper and Kurt Berger held the annual Introduction to Coastal Navigation class. This is a great class that starts out with basic chart reading. It then progresses quickly through various topics including: Latitude, longitude, contour lines, marks, lights, buoys, variation, deviation, speed, distance, time, bearings, 1-2-3 bearing fixes, and tides.
If not familiar with all of these subjects one of the participants who is experienced in ocean sailing sent

Another participant had this to say, "They covered a lot of information but did it in a clear and effective way. Although I’ve been sailing since a child, I’ve done very little formal navigation. I left with a good basic understanding, and strong desire to learn more and practice. I’m looking forward to future classes. Maybe a Coastal Navigation 2.0 class?"
