PPYC and HIYC Sailors Compete in massive regatta in St. Petersberg, FL
The Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta was held in St. Petersburg, FL on February 17-19, 2023. Sailors from Middle Tennessee joined sailors from all corners to race in what some have said may be the largest regatta this year.
Paul Latour - S2 7.9
"There are some things this sailor must do; like in the morning; make coffee, hug the wife, pet the puppies, fetch the newspaper; every day. Another must-do every year is race the mid-February, St. Petersburg NOOD regatta! Been doing it at least 20 years."

James ODell - S2 7.9
"Why did all the Nashville 7.9 skippers go to St. Pete at the same time? To race in the largest regatta in the country with two hundred and seventy five boats representing several classes. This past week the St Pete yacht club hosted the Helly Hanson World regatta series. This was the first of several regattas around the country geared towards one design racing. To say we had a blast would be an understatement. The weather was perfect, Friday and Saturday, sunny, breeze 10-15 with a few gusts in the twenties, relatively flat water. Unfortunately on Sunday the wind machine turned off, but that gave us the opportunity to pack up a little early and enjoy St Pete for a little longer. For the third time in recent memory the winner of the 7.9 fleet, Tom Bryant from Michigan was selected from the winners of the individual classes to go to the Caribbean, all expenses paid to race in the final regatta of the series. If you enjoy racing this regatta should be on your must do list."
Cody Hall - Melges 24
"Learning a lot and grabbing a 2nd place in race 5 was the highlight of the weekend. Finding the groove on this boat is fun. It's got a lot of gears and it likes to be right in the edge."
