Marina Sky View

Greetings, PPYC

Is it really June already?

As we move into the summer months, our sailing and social calendar starts to provide several fun social events on land and on the water.

The highlight of June is our upcoming Double-Double Regatta and the Luau Summer Party.  Both happen on Saturday, June 20.  The Luau is a free event for all members and their guests.  Robby is returning as our featured PitMaster for the BBQ, which promises to be the best meal of your summer.  In addition to the traditional Red Cup libations, we’ll have a Mocktail Bar with fun and refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails.  There will be live music by a local song writer and a few of the traditional games and prizes for all who attend.  Register early. This is going to be a great evening. Volunteers are also needed, please check below for details.

Club Business - Is it your turn?

We want to express our gratitude and appreciation for all of the dedicated members who volunteer and provide significant amounts of their free time to keep the sailing club alive.  George, Kate, Jeremy and Sam have dedicated multiple years to the club as board members. A huge thank you is well deserved as they roll off the board after this season.

As that moment approaches, we are in need of filling four very important positions for next season, including Vice Commodore, Treasurer, Race Director and Social Chairman

Please consider joining the Board and serving the club in one of these vital roles. We need your talents.  As a volunteer club, we all end up taking our turn to keep this 55 year-old sailing club going strong. Please reach out to me (Brian) if you want to chat about the role and expectations of any of the positions.

Travel Racing

This past weekend, members traveled with their J22 and S2 boats to Indianapolis and Detroit.  Our Race Academy training earlier this season paid off well for George Heintz and crew as they captured 1st place and the Mayor’s Cup trophy at Eagle Creek.  Our S2 sailors finished a very respectable 4th place in Detroit against stiff competition under varying conditions.  As a highlight of the weekend, our S2 members made the cover of Sailing World Magazine.

And maybe most important of it all, everyone shared lots of good times together on and off the water as we experienced another great benefit of our sailing community.

Additional News:

WNR Dock Assistant Needed

The Dock Assistant helps coordinate our crews for WNR. And while the duties are not demanding, this role is very important to WNR.

As members sign-up to crew each week on the WNR page, the Dock Assistant helps coordinate early in the week by posting the crew to the WNR skipper WhatsApp group.

On Wednesdays as crew arrive, the Dock Assistant greets and quickly assists them to locate their assigned Skipper. The Dock Assistant then heads out as crew on one of the racing boats.

This is a great way to get to meet new members and become a favorite of all of the WNR Skippers.

If interested, please let us know.
