Galen Freeman has been sailing for 60 years. Early in his sailing career,  Galen won 3 national championships in San Juan 21s before buying a J24. 

When the J22s came out he was eager to get this new fun boat that was easier to trailer and set up than the J24. 

He became the J22 Class Secretary.  He and his wife ran the J22 association and promoted it to international class status.  Galen also helped to start the J22 boats being built in Holland, Italy and South Africa. 

Galen has won numerous awards in the J22 class since its inception. For years, he has sailed in regional, national and world championships with his family and many friends. 

Among the many honors bestowed on Galen over the years, Bob Johnston awarded Galen with personal number J22 USA #2 for any boat Galen sails. 

Galen has served PPYC in many roles for many years.  As an appreciation of Galen’s lifelong efforts to promote sailing and the J22 fleet, we are privileged to award him with Honorary Member status.
