Greetings PPYC Members,

As we recover from the many challenges of the ice storm and wrap our heads around the massive fire at Elm Hill Marina, it seems that there may be a new and heightened appreciation for our time on the lake during warmer weather this season.

The last few weeks have been rough, to say the least. We hope all of our members are safe, warm and back to their regular routines.

With Hamilton Creek Marina back open, I want to express a special thanks to Richard Lewis, George and St. Clair Blue for cleaning up the club house and kitchen after the storm.

And for those who may have electricity connected to their boats at the marina, please be sure to check and make sure you are following proper marine-shore power cord requirements. As we saw at Elm Hill Marina, when it goes wrong at a marina, more than one boat may be lost.

 On the Horizon

There are several great club events coming up this month and next. I sure can't wait to get to see all my sailing friends soon.

Chartering A Sailboat on Vacation (Saturday, February 21)

On Saturday, February 21, Kurt Berger will lead this event on Barefoot Cruise Vacations. Members will share their experiences chartering boats and taking sailing trips to the British Virgin Islands, Belize, St. Maarten, the Bahamas, Chesapeake Bay, Florida and the Northwest. This is the ultimate club event dedicated to chasing the dream. We also will explore member interest in coordinating a few trips later this season. Be sure to sign up early. This is a member-only event.

 Cooking Class (Saturday, February 28)

This is our annual hands-on class where members learn the ins and outs of food prep and safety as they actually cook and serve a meal. Richard Lewis and Top Dog Productions with take the class through the steps of planning menus, prepping, cooking and ensuring food safety for group events. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet members in a fun indoor setting and learn the many cooking tips and recipes from our profession caterer and long-time social director on how to throw a successful party for a large group. Be sure to sign up, especially if you enjoy volunteering for our social events.
