Greetings PPYC Members,

I look forward to serving as Commodore for the 2026 season. We have another exciting sailing season in front of us with many fun events planned on and off the water.

 Membership Meeting

But first, I want to thank all our dedicated members who attended the 2026 Annual Membership meeting. If you missed it, be sure to take a moment to recognize Fred Bartrom, Reggie Tullos, Alicia Noble and Jackson Miller for their many years of service on the board.

We welcome our new board members Chris Berkey (Vice-Commodore), Sam Beckman (Race Committee), Heather Steel (Communication), Joy Grapentine (Secretary), and Robbie Karesh & Ania Gorska (At Large).

We also are very appreciative of George Heintz (Post-Commodore), Joe Campbell (Asset Committee), Jeremy Odom ((Treasurer) and Kate Atanian (Social Committee) for volunteering to serve another term in their important roles.

We are fortunate to have such a great team who will make this another memorable season at the lake.  Be sure to thank them all for their time and energy to making things happen at our club.

 Special Honor

As a highlight of the membership meeting, we also took a special moment to honor our workhorse member, Richard “Hook” Lewis, for his many years of service. It would be hard to find another PPYC member with more volunteer hours under their belt. We bestowed Richard with the high honor of achieving Honorary Member status. Be sure to congratulate him on this special award.

 On the Horizon

As we approach February, we have a few educational “off the water” events to peak everyone’s interest in chasing the dream and serving the club.

Chartering A Sailboat on Vacation (Saturday, February 21)

On Saturday, February 21, Kurt Berger will lead this event on Barefoot Cruise Vacations. Members will share their experiences chartering boats and taking sailing trips to the British Virgin Islands, Belize, St. Maarten, the Bahamas, Chesapeake Bay, Florida and the Northwest. This is the ultimate club event dedicated to chasing the dream. We also will explore member interest in coordinating a few trips later this season. Be sure to sign up early. This is a member-only event.

 Cooking Class (Saturday, February 28)

This is our annual hands-on class where members learn the ins and outs of food prep and safety as they actually cook and serve a meal. Richard Lewis and Top Dog Productions with take the class through the steps of planning menus, prepping, cooking and ensuring food safety for group events. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet members in a fun indoor setting and learn the many cooking tips and recipes from our profession caterer and long-time social director on how to throw a successful party for a large group. Be sure to sign up, especially if you enjoy volunteering for our social events.
