2024 Kamikaze
Kamikaze Regatta
Thirty something sailors set out on Sunday in ten boats, five spinnaker and five non-spinnaker, to compete in the annual PPYC Kamikaze Regatta. PRO James Odell was spot-on in his choice of the Low Water Dam Course given the southerly winds and approaching front. The pursuit start commenced at the no-wake buoys between the marina and the lake. A nice down-wind run brought both fleets to the narrow cut between Goose Island and the main shore, requiring rounding the island to port. Then it was a beat back to the finish line where it all started just outside the marina. Winds were 9-12 mph with a few lulls and occasional light rain. All made for very receptive crews to the chili served afterwards inside the marina building. Traditional awards of sake, plum wine, and beer were presented to first, second, and third place finishers in each fleet respectively. The prize award of a bottle of Jack Daniels, according to tradition, goes to the last place holder.
