Wednesday Night Racing Wraps up for 2024

Wednesday Night Racers battled it out one last time on Percy Priest Lake then packed into La Hacienda for Tacos and Trophies.

Congratulations to the winners and special thanks to every skipper that took out novice sailors and welcomed many to their crews this year. Also, a big thank you to Paul Heintz for creating some very AMAZING trophies for our winners!

The final race of this year's Wednesday Night Racing did not disappoint.  The short course was selected due to light winds and dwindling daylight.  The winds were Northeast and shifted East during the race.

Prior to the race it was realized that the series lead by Mark Girone's J80 Psycho Killer wasn't uncatchable.
Psycho Killer was out of the water and unavailable to race.  Mark Smith's Skyhawk was just close enough to catch Psycho Killer with a win of the final night.  After rounding the windward mark in sixth place, Skyhawk took a tight line close to the entrance to Hamilton Creek while Danger Zone, Fast Freddy, Banshee, Itch and Go Hogs Go all took a more conservative line farther out in the lake. Skyhawk's shorter course worked and was closing rapidly approaching the finish.  She was just edged out at the line for third by Banshee.  Given her Novice Bonus point, this left her 1 point behind Psycho Killer.

Frad Bartrom caught Sam Beckman prior to the finish to win the final race of the season!

The Final Standings were:

Non Spinnaker
1st Jud Adams
2nd Kenny Cooper

Spinnaker
1st Psycho Killer
2nd Skyhawk
3rd Itch
