Aspiring racers got their chance at the helm in the Rookie Race. Special thanks to the coaches who took a rookie out to participate in this fun learning event and to the leaders who helped run the race. The weather was a little challenging with threats of rain and large persistent wind shifts. Stellar work by the race committee allowed 4 races to go without a hitch. Bonus: everyone stayed mostly dry. After racing, we retreated to the Hamilton Creek Marina deck and shared a picnic lunch that included lots of fond memories for a day well spent. And of course, we had our traditional Rookie Race award ceremony where we celebrated and rewarded the participants for all the goofs and successes of the day!
There are a lot of ways for new sailors to get out on the water and this is just one. We also want to give a shout out to the many Wednesday Night skippers who have welcomed novice sailors onto their boats for Wednesday Night Racing. These things are important and so good for the sport.
