The PPYC Double-Double Regatta was held in the afternoon on Saturday 22 June 2024 under very light and shifty conditions. After a brief postponement, the breeze filled in with about 5-7 knots as forecast. The Race Committee got things started with a Wednesday Night distance course. Things looked pretty good until the competitors went around the white rock mark to the northeast. Unfortunately, the winds pretty much died for the trip around Luau Island and the Race Committee was starting to think about ending the misery with a shortened finish Just as it was being discussed, the spinnakers filled and the competitors started moving again. Galen and Sonny found the best lane and surged ahead being closely followed by Paul and Sydney. It looked like Paul and Sydney might get by Galen and Sonny, but they were fought off in a close finish. Brian and Fred looked clear ahead of the rest, but the breeze shifted and dropped about 150 yards from the finish. Looked like they might have dropped their spinnaker too late. Ania/Chris and Kate/Paul L closed things up nicely and looked like they might get past, but Brian and Fred finally caught a zephyr and crossed on starboard to get across the line ahead. Kate and Paul Latour edged out Ania and Chris at the finish (lost out on corrected time though). Skyhawk crossed shortly after. All the Spinnaker competitors were within 12 minutes.
Gene and Kenny won without opposition in the Non-Spinnaker category.
