Spring is near which means our season will be starting before you know it.  I was spoiled recently, by having the opportunity to sail in St Petersburg, FL at the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta.  What a treat. This is my 5th year and it did not disappoint.  Please check out the Leeward Report below where Paul Latour, James O’Dell and Cody Hall provide perspective. Also, see photos and more on the event.

Have you checked out our March Events.  March is jammed pack full of events, including our 1st regatta of the season.

I’d love to meet you!  Come by and say Hello at the Commodore Meet and Greet Mar 11th from 2-4.

Truly,

David Curtze
Commodore

Even if you can only stop out for a few minutes, please come out to meet our new Commodore and fellow PPYC members. This event will be Saturday, March 11, 2023, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. We would love to hear what you are excited for in the coming sailing season. And if we haven't met you yet, we look forward to seeing you there!

The Leeward Reports Catch up on what you missed...

  • Members were introduced to the concepts needed to navigate the US coastline. If any of you take a sailing vacation, we want to see pictures!  See more about the class.

Let's Go Sailing! Get in on these upcoming sailing events

The Force Five Regatta on March 25th has a little for everyone. We will run distance courses for a friendly competitive cruise around the lake. And there is an option for buoy races if there are enough One Design entries. So, Skippers, chase the spiders out of the cockpit. Crew, get out your deck shoes. Volunteers, launch the chase boats. LET'S GO SAILING!

Boat owners do this: Our Nashville US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-06 is offering to do a Safety Vessel Check on your boat for free.  Appointments are currently being offered for April/May and onward.

Why should you receive this safety check?  Peace of mind that your boat meets federal safety standards, and that in an emergency, you will have the necessary equipment to save lives and summon help.

PPYC U

U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary “Boat Tennessee” Course - March 4th

This course covers the requirements for Tennessee Boater Safety Education for those born after January 1, 1989 and will include the required exam for this state certification the day of the class. You don't have to take the test to take this course.  If you do want to take this state exam for your license, you will need to pre-purchase an exam ticket at any TWRA agent.

Race Committee Training - Sunday March 5th

We are partnering with Harbor Island Yacht Club to conduct some Race Committee training on Sunday 5 March at their clubhouse. This event is intended to be more practical on water training (playing with flags, horns and buoys etc.) as opposed to boring classroom training.  It should be fun!

New: Racing Rules for Beginners - Saturday March 18th

A quick intro to the rules of sailboat racing. Yes, there are lots of rules, but we plan to only cover the essentials. This is all you need for Wednesday Night Racing! There will be time for a sail afterwards.

Online Learning at the Helm - Starts March 7

Don't wait for warmer days. Stay inside and join us for a series of "virtual" Learning at the Helm sessions on Tuesdays in March.  The first session will be on the 7th.
