Another Big Week!

What’s Happ’nin’ …

Please take note of events coming up in the next few weeks, and click on their links for more information about them. Our main-season schedule is full of activities every week. To keep track, make it a habit to regularly check out the Upcoming Events calendar on the left side of our Home Page (www.ppyc.org) as well as the Upcoming Events And Other Items Of Interest page (link in middle of the Home Page.) For starters, check these out by clicking their links here:
Our next First Thursday Sailors’ Meetup is May 5th. These informal get-togethers at Shipwreck Cove at Elm Hill Marina are opportunities to enjoy a really interesting variety of conversations. If you haven’t been participating in them, come to this one and see for yourself! These are great opportunities for members and prospective members to visit with each other, and also to interact with our Board members who are among the regular attendees. No agenda, just mixing with fellow sailing enthusiasts and having a good time. Registrations would help us in our work with the facility to plan for the number of people attending. They are limited on space, so please register now for this one.

On May 7th, the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will teach their Boat Tennessee course locally. This course on responsible boating is designed for both adults and youth operating all types of pleasure boats on Tennessee waters. It was developed by BoatEd in cooperation with the U. S. Power Squadrons and the State of Tennessee and is approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). All the details including location, topics covered, registration and contact information are accessible at this link: Boat TN Course 5-7-22.

A word about how important volunteering is to our Club … We don’t want to be redundant in our Newsletter content, but when something is as critical as Volunteering is to the success of our club, we think it’s worthwhile in these early weeks of our main season to include this item again even though it was in our last Newsletter. The willingness of many of our members to volunteer their time to do the work required to make our events and activities successful is what enables us to keep our fees at relatively modest levels in comparison with similar clubs. Absent the efforts of these volunteers, our fees would necessarily be higher because we would have to hire people to do this work. To those who have served as volunteers, thank you for your support of our club. To those who have not yet done so, please consider volunteering for an event soon — and to take it a step further, consider becoming a member of one of our Committees or at least a regular resource they can call on for special needs. Also, see the About Volunteering page for an expansion of these remarks and a link to specific current opportunities.

Finally, some brief updates on some previously reported items:
  • A brief logistical note for our Club Boat Program members. … We have installed a combination lock on the asset building on the East side of the Clubhouse. If you need access to the building, send an email to social@ppyc.org.
  •  Don’t forget, registration will be required for all of our Cruising events so we can accurately plan the details for each as it approachesAbout a week before the event a broadcast email will be sent out to indicate that registrants will be contacted a day or two before the event about details (only those registered for that event will be included in that communication.)
  • If logging in at our web site is not something you often do, it would be worth your time to log in once in a while and avail yourself of the substantially expanded view that logged-in members see. So check it out, maybe starting with this link to a page summarizing the many enhancements we’ve made over the past year or so: Our Web Site — What’s New. While you’re there, see if your Member Profile is up to date. If not, your taking just a few minutes to enter the requested information will be a much appreciated way you can enable us to derive current and accurate information to guide our continuous efforts to make our programs and services enjoyable for our members. Just click on your name at the top right corner of the Home page and click on Profile in the dropdown list. You’ll need to be logged in, of course, since this is a function applicable only to members. If you have any questions or need additional information about this, send an email to communications@ppyc.org.
Go do some sailing — and greet each other on the water when you’re out!
