What’s Happ’nin’ …

Fasten your seatbelts! Two kick-off events last weekend started our 2022 main season — the  Force Five Regatta and the WNR Meet & Greet on March 26th. Regatta results have been posted on the Regattas page, where there's also a link to some great photos courtesy of John Patire and Kurt Berger.
The WNR Meet And Greet was a new thing this year, an excellent idea from the mind of our Sailing Education Director, Fred Bartrom. Fred assembled a panel of WNR regulars for the virtual (via Zoom) event, who shared with 17 participants what to expect, some safety tips and how to have fun. As he described it, “a way to find out why Wednesday Night Racing is an awesome activity for the middle of your work week.” Click here for a picture of the panelists, courtesy of Travis Turk: WNR Meet And Greet.

Next week, our 2022 season will shift into high gear, including two of our most popular weekly events (both on-the-water) Learning At The Helm and Wednesday Night Races. LATH is every Tuesday and WNR is every — well, you probably guessed it, Wednesday. This first week is a big “launch week” because there’s lots more going on: Cookouts after LATH and WNR; our monthly First Thursday Sailors’ Meetup on April 7th (venue is back to Shipwreck Cove for the rest of the year;) the annual HCSM Cleanup Day on April 9th; and our first Cruising Event of the year, a Lunchtime Cruise at 2:30pm, also on April 9th. Details on any of these events can be accessed through their entries in the Upcoming Events calendar on the left side our Home page.

A special note about the HCSM Cleanup Day on April 9th from 8:00am to 2:00pm. … There’s a lot of work to be done from 8am to 2pm to give our Marina a fresh and inviting appearance, but there’s another way to look at this particular annual Spring activity. … Consider it yet another way our Club provides opportunities to spend time with old friends and meet new ones — that can all happen while doing the work that needs to be done. Whatever skills you have, they can be put to good use! Registration is not required, but we recommend it because registrations help us plan and organize the day. Think about it. Register here.

Here’s some exciting news about Eric Roscoe, who raced with some of our members at our Wednesday Night Races this past season and participated in some of our Cruising events. He and Kali just had their second baby girl — Savannah Lea Roscoe is here! Born March 23rd at 6:11pm CT: 7 lbs 6 oz, 20-1/2 inches tall. Mommy and baby are doing great!

Finally, some brief updates on some previously reported items:
  • The water level on Percy Priest Lake is controlled by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of a regional flood control system. It is in its gradual rise toward Summer Pool (which is 490’,) currently projected to be about 40% of the way by the end of this month (485’.)  If the Corps follows its historical pattern, the level will be at Summer Pool by mid-April. You can keep updated on water level projections and other information as often as you like by clicking the PPL & HCSM Information button near the top of the Home page of our web site.
  • We’ve got some great plans this year for Cruising Events on Percy Priest Lake! All of them have been entered on the PPYC Calendar as placeholder entries so you can get the dates on your personal calendars. Don’t forget, registration will be required for all of our Cruising events so we can accurately planning the details for each as it approachesAbout a week before the event a broadcast email will be sent out to indicate that registrants will be contacted a day or two before the event about details (only those registered for that event will be included in that communication.) Stay tuned and get ready for a fun season!
  • If logging in at  our web site is not something you often do, it would be worth your time to log in once in a while and avail yourself of the substantially expanded view that logged-in members see. So check it out, maybe starting with this link to a page summarizing the many enhancements we’ve made over the past year or so: Our Web Site — What’s New. While you’re there, see if your Member Profile is up to date. If not, your taking just a few minutes to enter the requested information will be a much appreciated way you can enable us to derive current and accurate information to guide our continuous efforts to make our programs and services enjoyable for our members. Just click on your name at the top right corner of the Home page and click on Profile in the dropdown list. You’ll need to be logged in, of course, since this is a function applicable only to members. If you have any questions or need additional information about this, send an email to communications@ppyc.org.
Go do some sailing — and greet each other on the water when you’re out! Don’t forget we’re still at or near Winter Pool, so plan your route more carefully than is necessary at Summer Pool.
