Ahoy sailors!

We learned this week that COVID-19 related issues have negated our plans to hold the Annual Meeting at the facility we had reserved on January 9th as planned. The meeting will be RESCHEDULED to a 2021 date as early in the year as possible within this highly restrictive environment. We will work out the details and send them to you as soon as possible.

We are all looking forward to a new and exciting year of sailing and fun events around the club. I will be passing the gavel to the new Commodore in January, as I take over my new role as Past Commodore. It has been a wild ride this year for all of us; however, I am grateful to the best team of Board members I could ask for, as we plowed forward together to salvage as much of our club’s activities as we could. I’m looking forward to a better 2021!!

In this crazy year of COVID set-backs, both personal, business and family, I am very grateful to have not suffered getting sick, so answered prayers for not only myself, but for my family and friends, including my cherished sailors. I know Christmas will be different, as we are again encouraged to not meet in large groups, as new restrictions have been directed at that celebration. Although I don’t understand God’s master plan for all of us in this season and onward, I can only trust that He will continually protect us from all the constant threats around us and reveal to us what paths He wants each of us to follow. I wish each of you and your families the best Christmas you can have together. I am without my brothers and daughter this year but pray for 2021 that there will be resolution and help to allow us all to start living again in some sense of normalcy.

I have missed seeing all of you and hope that changes soon! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Love from your Commodore,

Kathy Ware

Upcoming Events And Other Items Of Interest

Upcoming Events

Despite the COVID-19 restraints on our activities and events this year, we were able to conduct some of them during the past few months. Last weekend, it was great to end the season on an upbeat with the Kamikaze Regatta! Here are the results:
  • David Curtze, First place over all and Spinnaker.
  •  2nd place over all and Spinnaker Craig Dooley
  •  3rd place overall and Spinnaker Tom Wagner
  •  4th place George -- on a J-22
  •  John Calvano First place non-spinnaker
  •  George Blue Second place non-spinnaker
  •  Kelt 25 DNF non-spinnaker
St. Clair Blue graciously accepted last place, and last boat to finish the year trophyAlso, check out photos here: 2020 Kamikaze Regatta Pictures.

We regret that it became necessary to postpone our
50th Anniversary Celebration event until a TBA date in Fall 2021. We want to do this right, and it simply isn’t possible to do that in the current COVID-19 situation. As mentioned previously, the Christmas Dinner And Social has been cancelled for the same reason.

There are no more events scheduled for 2020. To enable you to include PPYC events and activities in your preliminary planning for 2021, we’ve added a 2021 Events Sneak Peek link to the Events Calendar. It lists dates for all currently-scheduled events, including recurring ones. Access it on the Home page, or click here to access it now: 2021 Events Sneak-Peek.

Our Annual Meeting will be RESCHEDULED to a 2021 date as early in the year as possible within this highly restrictive environmentIt was scheduled for 2:00-4:00pm Saturday, January 9th, but we learned this week that new COVID-19 restrictions applicable to the alternate location we had reserved render that facility unsuitable as a venue. We will send updated schedule and venue information as soon as possible, and will keep the item on the Events Calendar current as we make decisions about the meeting.

Communications Corner

Since this will be our last Newsletter of 2020, I’d like to take the opportunity to express my appreciation to you for allowing me to serve as your Communications Director. I assumed the role in a year that’s been about as unusual as anyone could have imagined this time last year. It’s been quite a ride. And as a first-year member of our Board, I’ve learned a lot about what it takes to manage a yacht club. I’ve served on the Boards of quite a few not-for-profit organizations over close to five decades now, but this is the first in a club environment like ours. I look forward to a nearer normal situation next year.

Best wishes to you and yours for a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

Don’t forget to check the Coronavirus Updates page regularly for the latest information on how that plan relates specifically to PPYC [Link below.]

Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section.  We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there. You can access it through the Member Resources Menu, by clicking the link in the top banner on this page, or by clicking here: Coronavirus Updates
