Commodore's Corner

Ahoy sailors! We have finally received some good news for 2021 from the Corps of Engineers who must approve our permit for PPYC on-the-water events; it has been letter-approved based on the other required approval by TWRA (for which we have received verbal approval and await that formal document). We also await Metro’s approval of their application. I submitted these applications in July, so it’s been long-awaited news!

Please note in our calendar entries that our 50th Anniversary Celebration that was rescheduled for December 3-5 has been POSTPONED until the Fall of 2021 for logistical reasons, thanks again to COVID-19! However, the Kamikaze race on New Year’s Day is still on!

We have a trolling motor that was taken off one of our chase boats that will be offered to members “as is” shortly. Please contact Richard Lewis at 615-974-1894 or dl16120@bellsouth.net for further details.  We are also considering selling our club boat / boat trailer “as is” to a club member in the near future. Details TBD.

The Membership Committee has successfully created our 2021 Board Officer slate and it has been approved by the Board. Thanks go out to that committee for this arduous task! Those proxies will be distributed to membership by November 15th and will be voted on for approval by membership at the Annual Meeting on January 9th. The Board is also diligently working on the 2021 budget proposal which will be posted to membership by December 26th and discussed for membership approval also at the Annual Meeting.

Don’t forget to register for the upcoming Fall Off Regatta this Saturday, November 7th! Mother Nature is really cooperating with warm temperatures but light wind, but a good time will be had by all anyway. I’ll be at the clubhouse at 9am Saturday morning to send off our fleet for a wonderful day of racing. If you want to stop by and say hello to me, we can socially distance!

Missing you all!

From David Curtze (Scooter  S2 7.9) Fall Off Regatta Chair ... I am excited to share that we have several folks signed up for the Fall Off Regatta. We have Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker and Bee Fleet categories and boats in all three signed up. This is one of the few regattas that we have been able to do this year, and I want to encourage you to sign up if you have not already. ... We completely understand if COVID is holding you back from coming out, but please know that the club has put COVID safe practices in place and to help make this regatta even more COVID friendly, you do not have to attend a skippers meeting. The meeting will be done over the radio on VHF channel 68 and you can attend from the comfort of your boat. Read all about it in the Notice Of Race and in the Sailing Instructions. ... Sign up on our website www.ppyc.org before Nov 3 for the reduced rate. You can still register after Nov 3 but it will be at the full rate. There will not be a registration table at the regatta, so you must sign up and pay online in advance. This is due to COVID. ... We look forward to seeing you out there!

We regret that it has become necessary to postpone our 50th Anniversary Celebration event until a TBA date in Fall 2021. We want to do this right, and it simply isn’t possible to do that in the current COVID-19 situation. As mentioned previously, the Christmas Dinner And Social has been cancelled for the same reason. Please note that all remaining 2020 events are being updated regularly to reflect current status, so check them out on the Events Calendar.

Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for 2:00-4:00pm Saturday, January 9th. COVID-19 restrictions made the clubhouse unsuitable as a venue this year. The meeting will be held just two miles South of the turn from Bell Road into Hamilton Creek Park, at Priest Lake Presbyterian Church, 2787 Smith Springs Road, Nashville, TN 37217. See the item on the Events Calendar for additional information.

Communications Corner

In my October 9th Communications Corner article, I asked for input on a web site feature I said I’d like to see but won’t implement unless there appears to be a reasonable level of interest in it — a Boat Owners’ Section. I got enough feedback to tell me there’s at least enough interest to give it a try, so today I’ll share where it is in its “under construction” phase and ask for a little “crowd-sourcing” [a recommendation from one of the people responding to my October 9th article] to generate ideas for an overall framework under which an initial startup version could be developed. Depending on the level of feedback from today’s article, I’ll proceed to bring up a hopefully useful initial version.

If you go to the following link to the “placeholder” page I referenced in the previous article, you’ll see what the “Home Page” of that section might look like [there would ultimately be internal links to other sections on our site and/or external links to other sites.] Ideas received so far for future content are listed on that page, and there’s also a link to click for providing additional ideas. Here’s the link to that page: Boat Owners’ Home Page.

Thanks in advance for any responses I may get.

Don’t forget to check the Coronavirus Updates page regularly for the latest information on how that plan relates specifically to PPYC [Link below.]

Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section.  We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there. You can access it through the Member Resources Menu, by clicking the link in the top banner on this page, or by clicking here: Coronavirus Updates
