Ahoy sailors! I wanted to share with you that Richard Lewis (aka Captain Hook) had recently accepted becoming the 2021 Chair of the ASSET Committee, the group who will oversee all care of our 5 boats, our shed (which is now better organized, thanks to Hook) and any other of our assets located in the club house (such as the TV and related components). If you are interested in serving on this very important committee, please Email Richard at dl16120@bellsouth.net, cell phone 615/974.1894. He definitely needs volunteers soon! Another long-time club member, Paul Latour, had also offered to this committee, and I thank Paul for volunteering!

I’m not sure all of you are aware that PPYC has a couple of embroidered, personalized items. We have ball caps with the PPYC name and logo (dark blue/white lettering and logo) for $15 each (only 20 left). We also have our PPYC burgee (club flag) that is available for $20 (royal blue/white lettering) – only 18 left. Some fly their burgees on their boats (Bob and I flew one when we delivered a boat from Galveston several years ago and then had it framed). Just a Christmas thought if you’re interested! Just let me know via Email (commodore@ppyc.org). I can’t take credit cards, but checks or money orders made out to PPYC are the available payment methods that you can either mail to me at 1407 Clifford Court, Mt. Juliet 37122 (or meet me at the club house to exchange also for cash, if easier). If you prefer to mail your payment, I can deliver your items to the club house office in an envelope with your name on it – pick up at your convenience during marina hours.

We also have a burgee exchange program with other yacht clubs - you take one of ours (free) and exchange for their burgee (free), and we’ll mount theirs up on pegs on the upper club house walls. If you haven’t noticed our beautiful collection, the next time you’re there, just look up! They are from all over the world! One of our newer members, Wayne Pryor, recently purchased a 31’ Pearson and is looking for knowledgeable crew to sail with him. Wayne’s contact information is wrpryor1000@gmail.com or cell phone 904/945.9233. Please remember that my ears are always open to hear from our members about anything on your mind. Please feel free to contact me by Email or cell phone. Hopefully see you soon! Miss you all!

From David Curtze (Scooter  S2 7.9) Fall Off Regatta Chair ... I am excited to share that we have several folks signed up for the Fall Off Regatta. We have Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker and Bee Fleet categories and boats in all three signed up. This is one of the few regattas that we have been able to do this year, and I want to encourage you to sign up if you have not already. ... We completely understand if COVID is holding you back from coming out, but please know that the club has put COVID safe practices in place and to help make this regatta even more COVID friendly, you do not have to attend a skippers meeting. The meeting will be done over the radio on VHF channel 68 and you can attend from the comfort of your boat. Read all about it in the Notice Of Race and in the Sailing Instructions. ... Sign up on our website www.ppyc.org before Nov 3 for the reduced rate. You can still register after Nov 3 but it will be at the full rate. There will not be a registration table at the regatta, so you must sign up and pay online in advance. This is due to COVID. ... We look forward to seeing you out there!

The Christmas Dinner And Social has been cancelled. We’re sorry, but it simply will not be possible for us to have a meaningful gathering this year that is compliant with our COVID-19 policy. Also, all remaining 2020 events are being updated regularly to reflect current status, so check them out on the Events Calendar.

Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for 2:00-4:00pm Saturday, January 9th. COVID-19 restrictions made the clubhouse unsuitable as a venue this year. The meeting will be held just two miles South of the turn from Bell Road into Hamilton Creek Park, at Priest Lake Presbyterian Church, 2787 Smith Springs Road, Nashville, TN 37217. See the item on the Events Calendar for additional information.

Please check the special page we've added this year to keep you regularly and frequently updated on the overall status of the Coronavirus situation, including its impact on our Events schedule -- Coronavirus Updates.

Interestingly, the new Skipper/Crew Matchups capability we put in place this Summer seems to be gradually becoming a useful tool in spite of the limitations imposed on our activities this year. Although sign-ups in the Crew Needed and Crew Available directories have been understandably gradual because most of our activities for which matchups are possible had to be cancelled, they have been steady. We encourage participants in those activities — Wednesday Night Races, Sunday Afternoon Races, and several Regattas during the year — to consider signing up for either or both of these directories, and to keep tabs on them as we move toward restarting these activities next Spring.

Skippers, of course, will have to make their own decisions about whether to invite people to sail with them under the current COVID-19 protocols (see PPYC COVID-19 Poliicy and Club Boat Program COVID-19 Policy.) For any who want to look for matchups now, our Skipper/Crew Matchups capability is worth considering. In any event, the more people who sign up now for the Crew Needed and Crew Available directories, the more useful this feature will be for all going into next year.

As you’ll see in the overview at the main page of that section, there is no obligation to actively use the directories when you add your information to them — they simply indicate that when a Skipper is seeking Crew for a particular outing and you are in the Crew Available Directory, you may be contacted by him/her, or when a sailor is looking for an opportunity to serve as Crew within a certain time period and you are listed in the Crew Needed Directory, you may be contacted by him/her. Also, Skippers listed in the Crew Needed Directory who wish to control the “volume” of inquiries from Sailors seeking opportunities to sail can 1) specify whether or not it is OK to contact them, and/or 2) change their status at any time — to Available, Not Available, or Inactive — simply by completing a very short form online.

To get a feel for how the matchup process works and look at the current directories, click Sail in the main menu, and then select Crew: Needed/Available from the resulting drop-down list (members who are logged in can simply click Skipper/Crew Matchups in the main menu.)

To check this feature out now, all site visitors can click here: Skipper/Crew Matchups.

Don’t forget to check the Coronavirus Updates page regularly for the latest information on how that plan relates specifically to PPYC [Link below.]

Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section.  We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there.
