Don’t forget to register for the Equalizer being held on Saturday, October 17th and Sunday, October 18th.  And remember to register for the Fall Off regatta on November 7th!

A reminder: Your Email of suggested nominations for 2021 Board positions must be in the hands of our secretary (Alicia Noble, secretary@ppyc.org) by November 1st.

Because of the COVID-19 restrictions imposed on us, with regret, the Board voted last Monday night to cancel the Christmas party this year. It is certainly disappointing, as another social event bites the dust and must be removed from the 2020 calendar.

We are currently looking for another venue close by for our Annual Meeting in mid-January, because of the restrictions once again imposed by COVID-19 on club house use.

I am very pleased to see that members are continuing to renew their dues, and your loyalty to PPYC is deeply appreciated. COVID-19 has certainly taken its toll on our sailing season, as well as income to pay our bills. Thank you to all those who have renewed and thanks in advance to others who will also.

Missing all of you and hope to see you soon somehow!

Upcoming Events And Other Items Of Interest

Upcoming Events

Reservations for the Equalizer Regatta (October 17-18) have been open for several weeks now. It looks like turnout will be good, including out-of-town registrants. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Octoberfest Regatta because of complexities arising from the COVID-19 protocols.

The Christmas Dinner And Social has been cancelled. We’re sorry, but it simply will not be possible for us to have a meaningful gathering this year that is compliant with our COVID-19 policy. Also, all remaining 2020 events are being updated regularly to reflect current status, so check them out on the Events Calendar.

Wednesday Night Races resumed on August 26th and ended last week. We're glad to have been able to conduct this popular activity for at least the last part of the season. Thanks to all who participated.

Please check the special page we've added this year to keep you regularly and frequently updated on the overall status of the Coronavirus situation, including its impact on our Events schedule -- Coronavirus Updates.

Communications Corner

I make a sincere effort to avoid using this column to write about matters that could be viewed as simply oriented toward my own personal interests. One way I do that is to ask myself as I consider a topic “If I were a reader of this article, would I consider its content to be of general interest to our members and prospective members?” Although the content of this article is definitely of personal interest to me, I believe it may be of general interest as well. So here goes. ...

Bottom line, I’m asking for your input. I mentioned in a previous article that I’m a new boat owner (a Hunter 25,) and I am thoroughly enjoying the boat and the ability to sail whenever I want. My overall plan, however, is to end up with a 26-28 footer with some equipment and rigging amenities found on most of the 35- to 45-foot boats I’ve chartered during my 35+ years of sailing almost exclusively in coastal waters and very large inland lakes (and to which I admit I’ve gotten spoiled.) The input I’m seeking is threefold. ...

First, can anyone give me advice on the best way to sell a boat located here at HCSM? There are several web sites like www.sailboatlistings.com, but I’m finding that it’s not at all uncommon to find obsolete listings on some of them — boats that were sold a year or more ago and just weren’t delisted by the sellers (which seem to me to be “clutter” that would frustrate potential buyers.) I’ve also seen boats for sale on eBay and Craig’s List, but for some reason I’m skeptical (maybe unjustly) about those.

Second, I could use some pointers on how to most efficiently traverse the myriad of ways to look for a good deal on a 10 to 15 year old boat, maybe 20 at most — the more detail that can be specified in search criteria the better. Any good experiences with particular sites or dealers?

Third, I’d appreciate some input about a web site feature I’d like to see but wouldn’t implement unless there appeared to be a reasonable level of interest in it — a Boat Owners’ Section. If you go to the following link to a “placeholder” page I set up, you’ll see what the “Home Page” of that section might look like, and there’s a link there to click for providing input. Here’s the link to that page: Boat Owners’ Home Page.

Thanks in advance for any responses I may get.

Don’t forget to check the Coronavirus Updates page regularly for the latest information on how that plan relates specifically to PPYC [Link below.]

Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section.  We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there.
