Ahoy sailors!

A quick repeat if you have not received your 2020 membership card, please let me know via Email at commodore@ppyc.org.

The 2 chase boats were cleaned over the weekend. Kudos to Craig Dooley, Paul Latour, Iain Montgomery and Richard Lewis for their hard work in this heat!

I would still love to hear from members if you’ve taken any sailing or adventure trips in the past months to send photos and information, so we can publish!

Gary Pack has provided us with an excellent article from Sailing World on “when the going gets light” on light wind sailing: Sailing World Article.

I also have been following on Youtube.com the catamaran Lagoon 410 “Sailing NAHOA”, as this 34-year old couple gave up on the corporate world to buy this sailboat and sail around the world. Their video I wanted you to view is on “5 basic types of wind” -- Sailing NAHOA
Ah, that beautiful blue and green clear water – brings back very special memories of Bob’s and my 3 charters in Tortola and Belize.

I don’t have any further updates but promise to keep you apprised as I know further.

Hoping to see you soon!

Kathy Ware, Commodore

Upcoming Events

All of our scheduled activities for 2020 so far have been cancelled. Those that remain on the Events Calendar with future dates are currently marked “CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE” in the titles of those through August. For events after August, the Calendar is consistent with our status as outlined by Kathy in her recent Newsletter columns, as is the Coronavirus Updates page.

Please see the note Charles added in the Communications Corner section below about a special page we've added to keep you regularly and frequently updated on the overall status of the Coronavirus situation, including its impact on our Events schedule.

Communications Corner
At our May Board meeting there was some discussion about a FaceBook group page called PPYC. The group has 260 members, and the description in its About section begins with “Members of Percy Priest Yacht Club — All current PPYC members in good standing and those entering into our Learning At The Helm (LATH) program are welcome and encouraged to join.” The result of that discussion was a suggestion that we make this group an integral part of our overall processes for communicating with our members. To that end, I became one of four Administrators of the group, and around mid-May I began integrating it into our communication channels. A first step in that direction was to begin making a brief post each week when our Newsletter has been published, providing a link to it within the post.

We’ve also begun to include references to the PPYC FaceBook group in our emails and web pages and references to our emails and web pages in posts to the Facebook group’s page. Back in May, I did an introductory post to the group page indicating that we want to incorporate this group into our overall process for communicating with our members and the public, mentioning what kinds of things we’ll be posting there and what kinds of things we’d like to see others post — and perhaps most importantly, asking for suggestions.

By the way, you may not have noticed it, but at the top right of the header on all of our web pages [near where you click to log in or to access your profile if you’re already logged in,] there has for quite some time been a FaceBook link that will take you to the PPYC group page. There are other Social Media links there as well, and over time we may also integrate them more closely into our communication processes..

Don’t forget to check the Coronavirus Updates page regularly for the latest information on how that plan relates specifically to PPYC [Link below.]

Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section.  We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there. You can access it through the Member Resources Menu, by clicking the link in the top banner on this page, or by clicking here: Coronavirus Updates
