In my last two Communications Corner articles, I’ve mentioned that after testing with several members — all providing very positive feedback — I’d be going "live" soon with a new way of matching Skippers needing Crew with sailors wanting to serve as Crew. Whitney Gutsgell and I put this new method together to replace the Forums-based method invoked by clicking on Crew Finder in the main menu [that feature has not been used for several years.] Well, “soon” was June 26th!
Members who choose to use this feature will complete a very brief form to make their need for Crew or their availability to serve as Crew known to others by adding their name and contact information to either the Crew Needed Directory or the Crew Available Directory. Being listed in either of these directories does not obligate them in any way. It simply indicates that when a Skipper is seeking Crew for a particular outing, he/she can access the Crew Available Directory to find people to contact, or when a sailor is looking for an opportunity to serve as Crew within a certain time period, he/she can access the Crew Needed Directory to find people to contact.
So here’s how to use it:
On the public Home page, click on Sail in the main menu and look for a new choice in the list of links that appear — Crew: Needed/Available. Clicking on that item will take you a page describing the system and guiding you through the things you will want to do [create or change an entry in either or both of the directories, or view either or both directories.] On the member Home page, the system can be accessed the same way it can from the public Home page, but the best way to access it is by clicking the Skipper/Crew Matchups tab in the main menu [this tab was formerly the Crew Finder tab.] Three sub-menu options will appear: About This Process [a page describing this feature and how to use it,] Skipper/Crew Matchups [the “Home” page for this new section,] and Feedback and Suggestions [linked to an easy-to-complete form.]
Based on the feedback from those helping us test this new feature, I think it will be viewed positively by the membership. In any event, we’d like to know, so please do provide any feedback that would help us build on any initial success we may see.
Don’t forget to check the Coronavirus Updates page regularly for the latest information on how that plan relates specifically to PPYC [Link below.]
Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section. We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there. You can access it through the Member Resources Menu, by clicking the link in the top banner on this page, or by clicking here: Coronavirus Updates
