Commodore's Corner
I’m sure all of you have seen the news coverage about the four-phase reopening plan for the Nashville area that was announced on April 23. The news that this process can begin soon is very encouraging. However, its pace will be driven by data — mainly a fourteen-day moving average of COVID-19 cases. That means we still don’t have the fixed set of dates we would need to enable us to confirm events that currently remain scheduled in June and July as “TENTATIVE - Will Re-Evaluate May 4.” Some of our events require a significant amount of preparation, which means those involved in leading them need to know they are confirmed far enough in advance to complete preparations for them. Of course, those participating in them also need to be able to plan their personal schedules around fixed dates.

We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work through this unique set of challenges. Our Board is actively reviewing the Nashville area reopening plan with the goal of outlining a plan for our Club that is consistent with that plan — but more importantly, that keeps first and foremost doing our part in ensuring the health and safety of our members and others participating in our activities and events. We will keep you posted regularly on our progress through these Newsletters and perhaps special mailings when needed. Also, please keep in mind that we update our special Coronavirus Updates page immediately when new information is available. The link to that page is always in the red banner line at the top of our Home page, or you can access it here now: Coronavirus Updates.

Upcoming Events And Other Items Of Interest

Since all of our activities are cancelled through May 31, the only thing we'd like to communicate here is the importance of keeping in touch with us regularly on the overall Coronavirus situation -- as it relates to us, specifically.

All of our scheduled activities for 2020 remain on the Events Calendar, with “CANCELLED” in the titles of those up to and including May 31 and “TENTATIVE — To Be Re-Evaluated May 4“ for all items in June and July.

Please see the note Charles added in the Communications Corner section below about a special page we've added to keep you regularly and frequently updated on the overall status of the Coronavirus situation, including its impact on our Events schedule.

Communications Corner
Kathy mentioned the reopening plan for the Nashville area in her Commodore’s Corner above, so I won’t repeat any of that here other than to reemphasize that the best place to get up-to-the-minute information about our reopening plans is on our special Coronavirus Updates page. For quite a while now, I’ve provided a link to that page as the last item in this Communications Corner, and will keep it there for the foreseeable future. There is also a link to it in the red banner line at the top of our Home page.

In our April 17 Newsletter, I shared some things I’ve been doing in this stay-at-home mode to use more of my at-home time on “sailing stuff” even while enjoying time on the water under sail hasn’t been a good option for me. I thought I’d mention here some online educational opportunities that normally require registration fees but are being made available for limited times at no cost through several organizations. I’ll provide links to their web sites here. Sometimes these “deals” are easy to find from their Home pages and sometimes you have to look for them. Here are the ones I’ve seen lately:

Please Note. We’ve added a special Coronavirus Updates page to the Member Resources section.  We will post the most current PPYC-specific information we have about the Coronavirus situation there. You can access it through the Member Resources Menu, by clicking the link in the top banner on this page, or by clicking here: Coronavirus Updates
