2023 - J/22s Traveled to Indianapolis for the Governer's Cup

Two J/22 Sailboats Traveled to Indy

Eagle Creek is on the east side of Indianapolis near the world-famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is home to Eagle Creek Sailing Club (ECSC). On September 23rd and 24th, ECSC hosted the Governor's Cup Regatta & Lobster Fest. Racing and Lobster - I am all in!

Two PPYC boats traveled to compete in a fleet of ten J/22 sailboats. Galen Freeman, Sonny Keith and Brian Dougherty campaigned Hot Ruddered Bum, while Fred Bartrom, George and Paul Heintz sailed the boat formerly known as Rat Rod. We received a full dose of Hoosier Hospitality by the local members and the fresh cooked lobster Saturday night was amazing.

Four races were run in variable East-"ish" breeze on Saturday and the race committee was able to host two races Sunday in light winds. Competition was very close with only 2 points separating the top four finishers. Locals Chuck and Nance Goff along with crew Geoff Endris sailed Catch 22 into First Place with 13 points and claimed the Governers Cup. Bartrom and Freeman tied at 14 points a peace. The tie breaker went to Bartrom for Second Place and Freeman landed in Third.

After racing on Sunday, the biggest pizza's known to man were brought in for the crowd of hungry sailors. Seriously, they were as big as a kid and more than hit the spot.

Hey J/22 sailors, plan on joining in the fun next year!
